JOY LUTHERAN CHURCH
3174 Jupiter Blvd. SE Palm Bay, Florida 32909
Welcome to our Evangelism/Outreach page. Below you will find more information on the various ways you too can participate.
Evangelism is a word derived from the Greek euangelia, which means ‘Good News’. To be evangelistic, to do evangelism, is to tell the Good News of Jesus Christ to others who may not have heard. This is done not just through words, but through acts of self-giving love, reflecting the self-giving love of God for us. These acts of love constitute outreach.
Serene Harbor is a ‘safe place’ shelter for abused women and their children. It provides living quarters, food, and counseling services as a means toward independence. Joy regularly donates clothing, quilts made by our women’s group (WELCA), and funds to Serene Harbor. Because of recent economic events, the instances of abuse and the need for assistance grow. This place makes the world a safer and better place for numerous families and Joy Lutheran, through its offerings, assists.
Located in downtown Melbourne, Genesis House is dedicated to the plight of young single mothers. In three houses, each designed to provide specialized services (one for new moms, one for those in transition, one for those attending school), Genesis House shelters, counsels, provides life-skill training, and a ‘step up’ to these moms who seek a better life for themselves and their children. Babysitters are often needed, as well as transportation to various appointments. Joy has been blessed to be able to assist in providing these services as well as funds, quilts, clothing, and shoes. How lovely it is when God’s children serve God’s children (literally). ‘And a little child shall lead them.’
Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity is a national organization dedicated to providing homes by building homes. In Brevard County, this Christian institution extends from the farthest north area into south Brevard County and focuses on building up neighborhood which need revitalization. Joy Lutheran is one of twelve churches in the South Brevard area who have joined together in an Apostles’ Build. Together we fund and build a home from the ground up for a needy family. There are many ways to participate. You can help to feed the ‘crew’ on any work day. Those sixteen and over can join in the actual physical labor. Like an old-fashioned barn-raising, this is community helping build community. It’s the most fun way to get tired you’ll ever experience. And the fruits of your labor will be visible for years to come. How awesome!
